Oxygen production for corona treatment

The Republic of Moldova is severely affected by the corona pandemic. The number of new infections currently exceeds 950 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over seven days. The hospitals are therefore currently reaching their limits, medical oxygen is becoming scarce. Fourteen oxygen generators from Inmatec have now been installed. Distributed across thirteen hospitals, they will produce medical oxygen to supply corona patients.

The POC 8300 Med generators each generate 15,500 liters of oxygen per hour with a purity of 95%. The oxygen, which complies with the European guidelines for medical use, is used to ventilate patients. In some of the Covid patients, the corona virus leads to hypoxia, i.e. an undersupply of the organism with oxygen. These patients are usually supplied with about 10 liters (depending on the respiratory volume) of pure oxygen per hour via a mouth and nose mask as part of a low-flow oxygen therapy. Alternatively, patients are given around 60 liters of oxygen per minute via a nasogastric tube as part of high-flow oxygen therapy. In the case of particularly severe pulmonary processes, patients are supplied with O2 as part of invasive ventilation.

In total, the fourteen generators supply the Moldovan health facilities with over 5 million liters of medical oxygen per day and help treat numerous patients. The generators extract the pure oxygen directly from the ambient air with the help of PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) technology. The generators are housed in containers outside the hospitals.
