Nitrogen for packaging goods

Many foodstuffs change their consistency as a result of contact with oxygen. This is due to enzymes that set metabolic processes in motion under the influence of oxygen. The consequences include discolouration and spoilage of the foodstuff. In order to delay this process, the packaging of foodstuffs for transport and the time until consumption is realised with the aid of the shielding gas nitrogen. To this end, nitrogen is added to the packaging to displace the oxygen. This nitrogen atmosphere keeps food fresh and durable for longer without the addition of preservatives. This MAP method (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) is mainly used for oxygen-sensitive foodstuffs such as meat, fish, yoghurt and cheese.

Bitumen is used in many areas because of its material properties. The material obtained from crude oil is used, for example, in the building industry in the form of bitumen mats for sealing roofs. Given its soundproofing properties, bitumen slabs are also used in the coating of motor vehicles, bathtubs and dishwashers. However, the asphaltenes contained in the bitumen react with the oxygen in the air. Oxygen deposits on these bitumen cores change bitumen's material properties. Bitumen mats and bitumen slabs then suffer from oxidative ageing and become hard, brittle and cracked. Bitumen mats and slabs can also be packaged in a protective atmosphere made of nitrogen to protect the material from premature ageing and to preserve the positive properties of the material. The material then remains elastic and can be processed optimally.

But even electronic components can be protected from ageing processes by being packaged in nitrogen dry packs. For this purpose, the components are packed in special bags to which desiccants are added. These are vacuum-sealed and welded after nitrogen flushing. The "removal of oxygen" allows electronic components to be stored safely for a number of years.

With our nitrogen generators, we supply high quality solutions for the stationary and mobile production of nitrogen for different applications, including for low volume requirements.

Generators

Our nitrogen generators produce nitrogen with a purity of up to 6.0 with residual oxygene amounting to 1.0 ppm and quantities from 0,50 - 10.000,00 Nm³/h.

Technology

The separation of nitrogen molecules from the oxygen molecules is achieved by means of Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) Technology.
