Self-produced nitrogen for safe, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly laser cutting
The N2 supply represents a significant cost factor in laser cutting. With the Inmatec IMT PNC LASER nitrogen generator for on-site generation of protective gas, up to 70% of these costs can be saved. This is made possible by a two-stage and 100% oil-free production process. The new generator was now presented for the first time at the EuroBLECH in Hanover.
Nitrogen is an indispensable protective gas for all laser cutting applications. The new IMT PNC LASER generators from Inmatec produce nitrogen directly from the ambient air. The PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) technology used, filters oxygen and other components from the air and produces pure nitrogen (N2).
Unique on the market is the two-stage and 100% oil-free process in combination with an NKat system from Inmatec. Hydrogen (H2) is added to the nitrogen produced with an IMT PNC generator, which initially has a purity of 99.9% (3.0). The residual oxygen contained in the nitrogen is converted with the hydrogen into steam and heat, which are extracted in downstream processes. In this way, a nitrogen purity of up to 99.9995% (5.5) is achieved in an energy-efficient manner. By using this technology, the consumption of expensive compressed air can be reduced by up to 70% and thus maximum energy savings can be achieved. The N2 is then compressed in a completely oilfree booster and stored in cylinder bundles. On-site N2 generation with low-maintenance and oil-free Inmatec technology ensures a continuous, oil-free, and uninterrupted N2 supply, making you independent of suppliers and supply bottlenecks.

Laser cutting makes it possible to cut and separate a wide variety of materials with high precision. As a protective gas, the self-produced nitrogen creates an oxygen-free environment in the area of the laser beam, thereby effectively preventing oxidation and ensuring high-quality, filigree contours, and cutting edges. The result is a high surface quality for the machined workpieces. In addition, N2 is the ideal medium to flush the beam path of the laser and thus prevent scattering of the laser beam. The high-purity, self-produced nitrogen can be used in a wide variety of laser cutting machines such as CO2 lasers or fibre lasers.
