Turnkey plant for medical oxygen goes to the Caribbean
The Owen King European Union Hospital (OKEUH) from St. Lucia in the Caribbean is receiving a complete INMATEC oxygen production system, which includes all components for the production and filling of medical oxygen. The system will provide the essential gas for treating patients in the hospital.
Medical oxygen has become a scarce commodity in times of Corona. Due to the island location of St. Lucia, oxygen is only delivered in bundles or liquid containers by ship, which is neither a safe nor a cheap supply. To avoid future supply bottlenecks, oxygen generation on the island with the help of PSA technology (Pressure Swing Adsorption) is the safest method of oxygen supply.
The OKEUH, which is equipped with the latest medical technology, is the largest hospital on the island. The modern health facility with a total of 120 beds extends over four wings on two floors and includes various operating theaters, an intensive care unit, various wards and an outpatient department. The oxygen generation system, which will be delivered to the OKEUH in the next few days, enables up to 16 m3 of oxygen to be produced with a purity of 93-95% per hour - directly in the hospital. The system, which was built on a space-saving platform, contains the POC 8300 Med oxygen generator and all other technical components, including various buffer tanks and a bottle filling system. Each day, 384,000 liters of generated medical oxygen are filled into several 50 l pressure cylinders, which are used to ventilate Covid patients and patients during and after an operation.
