State program to secure oxygen supply in the country

On November 30th, the new COVID measures and the situation in the health sector were discussed in the Georgian capital Tbilisi. At the meeting of the Interinstitutional Coordination Council, chaired by Giorgi Gakharia, Georgia's Prime Minister, the oxygen supply to combat COVID-19 was discussed in particular. For example, as part of the “Produce in Georgia” program, oxygen is to be produced directly on site in order to ensure future oxygen supply. As part of the program, 10 Inmatec generators were ordered, two of which are already online.

During the meeting, the current situation in the health sector and the availability of hospital and intensive care beds were discussed. The focus of the discussions was on the importance of an uninterrupted oxygen supply for the approximately 3.7 million inhabitants of the country. The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development works together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to increase the capacity of self-produced oxygen. In this way, storage reserves of the vital gas are to be formed in order to ensure the treatment of patients.

Thanks to the government-sponsored program “Produce in Georgia”, the Minister for Economic Affairs and Sustainable Development, Natia Turnawa, does not expect a supply deficit in the future. The program is already producing one tonne of oxygen per day for the health sector. Now 10 more oxygen generators from Inmatec have been purchased. Two of the systems have already arrived at the Rukhi Healthcare Facility and have solved the problem of insufficient oxygen supply there. Three oxygen generators will soon be installed in the Batumi Republican Hospital and three more in the Tbilisi Republican Hospital. The POC 8500 POC systems each produce 34 m3 of oxygen with a purity of 95% per hour.
